Major Dan Emmons is an Assistant Professor in the Applied Physics Department of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.  He specializes in plasma chemistry and remote sensing of ionospheric disturbances.  Through an ROTC scholarship, he received a BS in physics from San Diego State University and commissioned into the Air Force with an initial assignment in the Human Effectiveness Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Brooks City-Base, Texas.  Subsequently, he attended AFIT for an MS degree in applied physics and received a follow-on assignment to the Space Vehicles Directorate of AFRL at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico.  In 2014 he returned to AFIT for a physics PhD and joined the Applied Physics faculty in 2017.
